Abstract

In the world's forestry there is an increasing interest in making comparisons between countries with regard to the different aspects of forestry, especially the wood costs of the forest industries. Sometimes it may appear that comparisons are done without giving due consideration to the varying institutional, economic and geographical factors and circumstances having their impact on the observed differences. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate some of those institutional and economic factors for the comparison of stumpage prices between Finland and British Columbia. The concluding idea is a very preliminary one and may need reconsidering.
