Consequences of climatic fluctuation in forestry
Abstract
Climatic fluctuation has clearly affected forestry practices in northern Finland. The amelioration of the climate in the early part of this century created optimism among foresters and resulted in a great expansion of forest industries. But the deterioration after the 1930s caused alarming failures of reforestation, and consequently more conservative silvicultural directions were issued. In the 1970s prospect is again more optimistic; because of the warm summers and a good seed crop was obtained in 1973, new plantings have been successful, and even in the older plantations the surviving trees have recovered. How to Cite
