Abstract

In the choice of criteria for this study of CBD delimitation particular attention has been paid to the size of population. The subject is first studied with reference to six Finnish cities of different size on the basis of the number of storeys in CBD use and the relation between length of frontage of CBD enterprises with show windows and length of block side. The efficacy in Finnish conditions of various delimitation methods based on use of space and on population is then compared. Finally the effects of a city's size on the number of storeys in CBD use on the area of the CBD are shown, and the applicability of the method used in this study is appraised.
